Coral Gables Police and Fire Safety Headquarters opened their double-panned doors at 8:30 am, to pay respect to the thousand of lives lost at the World Trade Center with service, compassion, and unity.

Each speaker applauded the heroic efforts under the cloudy gray skies, and promised to remember the victims while officers raised a gigantic United States of America flag above a fire rescue truck on Salzedo Street.

Attendees stood and sat quietly, as Fire Rescue Chief Marcos De La Rosa and Mayor Vince Lago spoke on teaching the future culture about the bravery and exceptionalism shown by the 9/11 victims; immediately after the towers were struck. 

Today’s ceremony isn’t just about looking back at the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that Tuesday morning; it’s a direct salute to the enduring watch and service.

Also during the morning remembrance ceremony, uniformed officers forward marched and played taps with a trumpet honoring fallen service members before the singing of the National Anthem.

Salzedo Street served as a powerful focal point for regional reflection to the historic “Heroes of September 11th.”

Moments of silence marked each significant moment of the day, bell tolling marked the moments each plane hit the towers, the Pentagon, and a field in Shanksville, as well as when both towers fell.

Today’s ceremony isn’t just about looking back at the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that Tuesday morning; it’s a direct salute to the enduring watch and service. It honors the Port Authority officers, the NYPD and FDNY who ran into the towers, the Pentagon personnel, and the military members who answered the call at Ground Zero. During the full ceremony, the crowd heard from community leaders, witness the ceremonial presentation of colors, and a unifying spirit of a city that refuses to forget.
